How to Apply DIY Cluster Lashes at Home: A Step-by-Step Beginner’s Guide

Want to learn how to apply DIY cluster lashes at home? Cluster lashes make it easy to create a customized, wispy lash look without a salon appointment.

Whether you’re completely new to DIY lashes or trying clusters for the first time, this simple step-by-step guide will walk you through preparing, applying, and sealing your Lash Stack Studio® cluster lashes for a beautiful finished look.

What You'll Need

Before getting started, have everything within reach:

Step 1: Start With Clean, Dry Lashes

A great lash application starts with a clean base.

Make sure your natural lashes are completely clean, dry, and free from mascara, makeup, oils, or other residue. Oils around the lash area can interfere with the bond and may reduce your wear time.

Starting with clean lashes also makes it easier for your DIY clusters to blend naturally with your own lashes.

Step 2: Apply the Bond

Apply a thin layer of Lash Stack Studio® Bond near the base of your natural lashes.

You don’t need a heavy coat—less is more. Too much bond can make application messy and may cause your lashes to feel sticky.

Allow the bond to become tacky for approximately 30–60 seconds before beginning your cluster application.

Beginner tip: Work in small sections so you have more control over placement.

Step 3: Choose Your Cluster Lengths

One of the best things about DIY cluster lashes is the ability to customize your look.

Using your lash applicator, gently remove your first cluster from the tray. Avoid pulling directly on the lash fibers.

You can mix different lengths depending on the style you want to create. For example, gradually increasing the length toward the outer corner can help create a soft, lifted appearance.

There’s no single perfect lash map—experiment with different lengths until you find the look you love.

Step 4: Apply the Cluster Under Your Natural Lashes

Using your applicator, carefully position the cluster underneath your natural lashes, slightly away from the waterline.

Gently press the cluster into place and allow the bond to grab.

Placing the clusters underneath the natural lashes helps conceal the lash band and creates the seamless appearance that makes DIY clusters so beautiful.

Important: Clusters should be attached to the lashes—not directly to the waterline or eyelid skin.

Step 5: Continue Across Your Lash Line

Continue adding clusters until you achieve your desired look.

You can work from the outer corner inward, choosing different lengths to create your preferred lash shape.

Take your time, especially during your first few applications. DIY lashes become much easier with practice.

And remember: your lash look doesn’t have to be identical on everyone. That’s part of the fun of creating your own customized set.

Step 6: Fuse Your Clusters

Once all your clusters are positioned, use your lash applicator to gently press your natural lashes and clusters together.

This helps secure the clusters and creates a more seamless finish.

Be gentle—you don’t need to squeeze hard.

Step 7: Seal Your Lash Look

Once you’re happy with your placement, lightly apply the Seal to the bonded areas.

The seal helps reduce any remaining tackiness and finishes your application.

Allow your lashes to set before touching or adjusting them unnecessarily.

And that’s it—you’ve created your own customized DIY lash look!

Tips for a Beautiful DIY Cluster Lash Application

A few small changes can make a big difference:

  • Use less bond, not more. A thin layer is usually easier to work with.
  • Keep oils away from your lashes before and after application.
  • Use a magnifying mirror if you have trouble seeing the base of your lashes.
  • Mix different lengths to create a customized wispy look.
  • Take your time. Your first application may take longer, but it gets easier with practice.
  • Skip the mascara. Your cluster lashes already provide the length and volume you need.

How Long Do DIY Cluster Lashes Last?

Wear time can vary from person to person depending on application technique, aftercare, skin type, exposure to moisture and oils, and other factors.
